Daniela Baeza Blogs/The Cosmos
Blog #1
Introduction
Hello! my name is Daniela, I am currently a junior at the University of Northern Colorado. This Blog is being designed for a requirement for my Astronomy class “The Cosmos” (AST 109-006) . I would like to begin by sharing my experience with astronomy. In the past year I have been focused on the night sky, especially during the summer time. This past summer I enjoyed to drive out to a county road far from my small home-town, I would lay on the flat bed of my pickup and stare at the night sky for a couple of hours. Seeing the night sky shift, shooting stars, and feeling that the sky was at the tip of my nose full of bright twinkling stars was what kept making me go back to this particular county road. I had fallen in love with the summer night time sky. -My major at UNC is Business Management with a minor in Psychology. It took me about 2 and half years to decide my major, I had been “undeclared.” To this day I do not specifically know what I want to do once I graduate but I have always had the desire to help others, perhaps one day I could have my own interpreting company, since Spanish is my first language. I am fluent in Spanish and in English. I would like to learn at-least one more language. One thing I can say about myself is that I have made a huge improvement since freshman year til’ now my junior year. Freshman year I was completely clueless now I maybe have an idea of what I want to be “when I grow up”. – I personally do not know much about astronomy but I am ready to learn more about it this semester! -One thing that I am excited to learn about is the stars and as to why stars die and why there are shooting stars! I hope you are able to follow me on my journey throughout this semester throughout my blogs 🙂 .

Episode 1
- Spacetime is something super interesting. As we explored our solar system, I began to question how fast would it be if we were all able to go on a ride on a comet?

Episode 2
- Listen to Carl Sagan’s talks about the plants. One thing that I took away or asked myself was if we were not on this planet would the plants be different? Would they be taller and bigger?

Episode 3
- After hearing that the autonomy model was prevented for 15,000 years due to the church. If it wasn’t prevented would the space and astronomy and science, would they be more developed?

Episode 4
- The episode “Heaven and Hell” explains about a psychiatrist planetary mass that experienced closed encounters in the solar system, which created biblical events, such as the red sea parting. There for my question is: if such thing of planetary mass that fell out of Jupiter and created these certain one in a lifetime events, would there be a chance for another parting of the red sea? And would it be somewhere else?

Episode 5
- “Blues for a Red Planet” Carl Sagan takes his audience for a journey. The most interesting fact that captured my train of thought was when Viking landed on earth and how he began to “taste the air”. If scientist then were able to create such an elaborate robot, now today with our technology would you think it is possible to create a higher dimension robot? Since, yes there might be potential life on earth, but would there be source or a way to develop life with science?

Episode 6
- “Travelers’ Tales” Carl explains that the stars across the oceans are other suns. He concretely explains why they could be other suns with their own planetary system that does not appear in our solar system. My question therefore is: have they been discovered yet scientifically? I understand in the celestial world. What are the differences between the celestial and science world?

Episode 7
- “The Backhone of Night” Charles Darwin made the discovery of the household implement of the water thieve. It was used as a kitchen essential. He explains this tool and it was brought to my curiosity if there was a discovery or such an invention that made history, would it be possible if someone today such as millennial where to discover a science tool would it be posted everywhere? Is there more that can be “newly” created? Or have we run out of thoughts? Do we rely on the past for ideas and inventions that are other recreations of it?

Episode 8
- “Travels in Time and Space”: There are designs of spaceships that can take us on ride on to space. Carl Sagan talks about the project of the spaceship Orion it uses nuclear explosions that provides a fast velocity in space. It was created in the United States and before tested there was signing that nuclear explosions were prohibited in space. Well my question and thoughts would be what if the whole world different mentalities not just the United States were to gather thoughts and create a spaceship that would allow all of us for a ride and be able to travel in the speed of light. How long would it be until a special spaceship is created? Will there ever be spaceship?

Episode 9
- “Th e lives of the Stars” This episode talks about the hydrogen of the sun and how much is left. Therefore, I immediately thought about solar eclipse and how much energy the sun could potentially be wasting. Therefore, I thought does it spend more energy when there is a solar eclipse? Another thought that popped into my head when the sun erupts where will it land first? Will it land on the planets that are right by it or would it distribute evenly, ending all the planets at the same time?
*** The Episodes are from Carl Sagan that explains the science field and the space field in a concrete way setting real world examples****
